Another Bastion Of Land Based Bingo Closes Its Doors

Sadly and with ever increasing frequency, independent bingo clubs are closing down. These places to socialise are historic in that they have been running for years and many locals have depended upon them for generations for their entertainment needs.

The latest bingo club to hit the decks is the New Century Bingo Club, the name says it all, it had been named to last the century, but unfortunately in the new century with the new rules, access to online bingo technology and of course the ever present bug-bear of the smoking ban this bingo club in Woolston, Southhampton, has had to close its doors. Some of the staff have been placed at a nearby club, and some decided to take the voluntary redundancy route.

In the same fashion that many cinemas were converted to bingo clubs, during the Golden Age of Bingo, so too did the New Century Bingo Club, thirty years ago. Taking into consideration the socialisation aspect of bingo and the fact that this bingo club had been operating for such a long time, the community of Woolston are really going to miss having their old friend to visit for a game of “house” with their pals.

Unhappily, this appears to be a trend that will continue into the future, making sure that for some people, bingo will never be the same again.
