Mecca Bingo Staves off Harrah’s Once More
Just as we were beginning to think that quiet had come for the Mecca Bingo (Rank Group), we hear the new twitching of a rumour that Harrah’s is after them again and trying to wheedle their way into the UK gaming market. I would like to add that Mecca Bingo has held them off on more than one occasion and well done to them too. I would really be stinky if a US gaming company managed to obtain a share in the UK bingo industry.
My particular objection to anyone in the US having a stake in any UK bingo business is due to the US stance on the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. In other words, the US seems to believe that they can take a slice of profits from UK gaming markets, while completely disallowing any UK gaming operators to enjoy the same benefits.
Gary Loveman, the CEO of Harrah’s took the lead in orchestrating the take over of Mecca Bingo’s UK business, but he has been firmly refused on a number of occasions now and I would like to congratulate Rank Group (Mecca Bingo) for their patriotic stance against the US invaders. It is unfortunate that Harrah’s already enjoys the fruits of UK online bingo profits through its interests in London Clubs International.
