Regular Bingo Sessions Planned for Birmingham Towers Ballroom
One of the best-loved nightspots in Birmingam has been saved from demolition balls and bulldozers. It is now back in the spotlight and will be featuring regular bingo games and live bands.
This building which stands on the banks of the Edgbaston Reservoir, has been a popular night spot for many decades, but has unfortunately stood derelict for the past two years.
The redundant dance hall was destined to be demolished and flats were to be built on the site after the building was purchased by Countrywide homes. But thanks to angry residents who held demonstrations for it preservation the soon to be dance spot and bingo hall will be given a ₤250,000 facelift in which the ballroom, bars and VIP lounges will be restored to bring the ballroom back to life.
No only will bingo be played in these hallowed halls, but the original revolving stage is to be fitted out to work again and it will feature band to make it a top venue for over 25’s where they intend to make is a venue for 60’s bands like the Tremeloes and the Fortunes, as well as sporting events such as boxing matches. The Council which still holds the freehold, refused to allow Countrywide a change of use for the land.
