Trouble for Bingo Hall Industry

This subject keeps cropping up in the news, but it appears that there are real fears that the land based bingo hall industry faces extinction. It would be a great shame to see all of the bastions of land based bingo closed down, but it is a fact that double taxation and smoking bans have had a huge impact on the profits of the bingo industry and many of them are being forced to close down due to economic strife.

This came to the fore with the collapse of Rank’s stock (Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casino’s), this stock collapse situation was severe enough for the Chief Executive of the Bingo Association, Paul Talboys to have a chat to a few of the bingo industry’s figureheads.

We must comment, that the Prime Minister has promised to discuss this matter with the Chancellor and Sports Minister, ahead of their next years budget, but to day the industry has heard very little about whether any of these discussions have come to fruition. In the meantime bingo halls continue to close theirs doors. Jobs are being lost and valuable socialising venues are being lost, leaving people who have played bingo for years in the same club, without their favourite leisure pursuit.
