Bingo Cashier Caught With Her Hand in The Till
Twenty Eight Year old Emma Meechan has been put behind bars for eight months, of which she will serve four for “abusing a position of trust”. She was the bingo Cashier at the Gala Bingo Club in Banbury, where she took advantage of a glitch in the computer and managed to pocket ₤16,000 in a matter of thirteen months.
The bingo club makes use of a system called Buzzcard, this allows customers to make use of a swipe card to load money and store their winnings.
The bingo worker discovered that a glitch in the computer had mistakenly loaded certain members’ cards with ₤167 000 which she took advantage of and began pocketing money from these bingo accounts. Her defence, Jane Malcolm, plead that this was not something that had been purposefully engineered, merely something she had taken advantage of and that she had only taken the money to supplement her income, not to commit a sophisticated crime or lead an extravagant lifestyle.
Emma was deeply ashamed by the offence and realized that she had abused her position of trust due to her own greed. Sentencing took place at the Banbury, Oxford Crown Court.
