Bingo Club Threatened with Closure

Now for a bingo club closure of a different kind, old age pensioners have been threatened with eviction from the venue for their weekly game of bingo, the reason, they bring their own cakes and biscuits to the venue! The town council of Frinton and Walton told the pensioners that they would not be allowed to continue to play there if they continued to bring their own snacks. Now we all know that UK pensioners are on a tight budget so instead of allowing the council to dictate to them that they had to purchase their snacks from the kiosk in the town hall, they have fought back and relocated their bingo club.

The will now be playing bingo at the Royal Albion Pub, and they won’t have to pay the high prices that the town hall kiosk charges them. We are all feeling the pinch of the rising cost of living and I cannot fathom why the town hall had to dictate to the pensioners regarding their choice of snack purchases, but whatever the motivation, I feel that they are certainly not very civic minded.

Bingo is an important social activity for old age pensioners, and it is this kind of draconian regulation that needs to be kicked in the seat of the pants. The town council said that they were not prepared to comment on the matter, but apparently the town is really outdated. The only got their first pub in the year 2000 and residents campaigned against this, they also campaigned against allowing ice cream on the beaches. Apparently this little village is pristine and they certainly do not like change, but stopping pensioners from bringing their own snacks to the town hall for their bingo night is really a bit over the top!
