Bingo for Our Queen Royal Staff

It has been reported in the Mirror today that Royal staff at Balmoral Castle in Scotland are being offer bingo sessions as a way of stopping them getting bored and keeping them off the booze at the same time.

It is not that surprising to hear about city Royal workers who have been posted to Scotland struggle to adjust to rural life.

There is a vast difference between city life and rural life and it is not for everyone. In cities there are shops on every corner and so much going on, rural life is a lot slower paced and you could walk for miles to find your local shop. So no wonder some of their staff have turned to drink (according to the book by Robert Hardman, that is).

Apparently, not only were the Queens staff giving the opportunity to take part in bingo sessions, but they were also offered pony rides and mountain biking – all leisure activities to help pass the time away whilst the Queen it out of town.

In his book (Our Queen), Robert Hardman said, “Some preferred to spend their off-duty moments in the bar rather than enjoying the scenery.”

It has also been said by Hardman, that the Met find it hard to get officers to stay at the Balmoral retreat – it must be quite a lonely job that is for sure, but one that has its benefits too.

Royal staff on the booze? Never! Maybe they should make them sit down and watch the hit TV drama (Downton Abbey) as these kind of shenanigans simply would not be allowed. In this series Downton Abbey portrays the lives of the Crawley family and their servants in the years leading up to world war 1 and it has been a massive hit with the viewing public.
