Mecca Bingo Commemorate Remembrance Day

This Friday sees a date in our calendars (11,11,11) that none of us are likely to ever witness again (as it only comes around once every 100 years) and it is also the day each year in which we remember our armed forces who died in the line of duty in World War 1 and those who have passed away since.

Two minutes silence is usually observed at precisely 11am on 11th November and Remembrance day itself will take place on the nearest Sunday to 11th. The red poppy which is currently being sold in supermarkets, shops, schools etc, etc, etc, throughout the UK is now a familiar symbol of Remembrance Day and all sales of the red poppy go directly to the British legion.

Gaming operator Mecca Bingo also aim to do their bit for the British legion this Friday, as they have pledged to donate 40p out of every £1 spent by their customers in their special private bingo room on Friday night.

So not only can they play to win a slice of £11,111 worth of guaranteed cash, but Mecca customers can also help to raise funds for the British Legion at the exact same time.

Mecca Bingo have always been prolific in raising funds for good causes and their current chosen charity benefiting from all their fundraising events is Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Staff at the Mecca Bingo club in Scarborough have taken up a 50/50 challenge, where team members will be given £50 and asked to raise as much cash as they can within the next 50 hours from their £50 note.

All proceeds they make from this fun fundraising imitative will go to  Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Tim Stobart, who is the general manager at Mecca Bingo Scarborough, said: “We are asking team members to channel their business acumen and come up with some money-making ideas to generate as much profit as they can from £50.”

They have had some great ides suggested so far said Tim, which have included “sponsored leg waxes for men, holding a jumble sale and organising a special charity game in the club. In fact, there are so many ideas being talked about that it should prove to be a hectic but fun two days.”
