Will Facebook offer Real Money Gambling

It is no secret that social media giant’s facebook are looking into offering real money gambling direct from their site, but this of course could come with lots of implications of its own.

The legal age to be able to use facebook is currently set at 13 or over, but this does come with limitations until you reach the age of 18. However as we know there are lots of people under the age of 13 using facebook today, most of us only have to look at our own friends list to see our relatives / friends kids on there – as it is very easy to bypass the facebook system by simply entering a false date of birth.

Although this of course is illegal and goes against their terms and conditions, but still this kind of activity does go on and facebook have certainly not stamped it out. Which begs the question, just how will they control real money gambling direct from their site efficiently?

Facebook are already one of the major advertisements for online bingo / casino gaming as it is near on impossible to log onto your facebook account without being greeted by one sort of gaming ad or another and these do seem to be predominately bingo based. There are also a number bingo and casino related game apps you can play, along with other games – so you could say that they are right in the mix of online gaming, but in a different format.

When facebook begun it was their intention to help us connect with friends and family more efficiently over the net. Their social networking site was free to join and it captured the imagination of millions of people. The software and ease of use of their site made it that anyone could sign up and connect, whether they were computer literate of not – which is probably why it has been such a great success. But we are not sure about this latest move!

What do you think – is it right for facebook to offer real money gambling? Or should they stick to what they do best and carry on providing a super free social network site, but without all these gimmicks?
