Drunk Climbs to Top of Bingo Club

The Deluxe Bingo Club in Hastings experienced an all new type of visit when a drunk man climbed to the top of the club and was spotted on the canopy at 2am. The police were called by a member of the public who told the police that the man had climbed up by way of a wall advertisement and crossed several buildings to reach the canopy of the bingo club. Eventually the fire brigade was called and found the man asleep on the canopy.

The man was heavily intoxicated and they could not awaken him, a specialist unit was called out with a lift cage because he was too drunk to climb down by himself. Eventually when they did get him down he became erratic and his behaviour was abusive. He was warned by the police and they reminded him how much time it had taken to get him down from the bingo club canopy, but he displayed very little remorse and was subsequently detained for the night after becoming argumentative. He said that he didn’t care how much time it had taken them to get him down, and the following day, still showed no remorse.

At his court hearing he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and apologised to the court, saying that he remembered nothing about his actions on the night of the incident. He was given a nine month conditional discharge and fined ₤60.

I actually cannot perceive of a more ignominious claim to fame, imagine when they tell this story to his children and grandchildren. They will all be asking him to tell the story of the night he was arrested for climbing to the top of the bingo club! Hardly the Great Train Robbery, is it?
