Hilda Plays Bingo and Cards to Keep Young At Heart

One hundred year old resident of Huddersfield town centre, Hilda Cater, who has four daughters, seventeen grandchildren and three Great grandchildren says that she stays young at heart by playing bingo and cards, and believes that leading an active life without cigarette smoking or alcohol is the major contributing factor to keeping her strong and fit.

Mrs. Cater who very recently turned 100 years old, lives at Buxton House says that her birthday week has been a whirlwind of excitement. Not only did she receive a telegram for the queen and parliament, but she has two birthday celebrations, one at the Meltham Golf Club and another at the Over Sixties Club. She is a member of the Over Sixties Club where she regularly plays bingo and cards, she joined the club at Huddersfield Town Hall more than forty years ago.

Well we have heard it said before that bingo is a great game for keeping the mind of the elderly active and I believe that Hilda is living proof of this fact. This is why it saddens me so much to see bingo clubs, pillars of the community, particularly for the aged, closing down at such a rapid rate.
