MP Calls at Bingo Club in Hartlepool

It seems to me that when local MP’s want to get noticed, they go to the local bingo club and call the numbers. This just goes to show that playing bingo is at the heart and soul of the UK nation, and as such should be preserved and protected. The latest in a long line of MP’s to grace the local bingo hall with his magnificent calling skills is MP Ian Wright. He took the microphone for a game at the Carlton Club in York Road, Hartlepool as part of a charity drive for the Alzheimer’s Awareness Week.
The game he called was set up to boost the image of bingo as a good brain exercising activity, and rightly so, many studies have proven that bingo keeps the mind of the elderly person sharp and active, particularly online bingo, where a specific study was carried out. He said that meeting the staff and players at the club as well as having the opportunity to draw attention to the impact of dementia, was and outstanding opportunity for him. He is hoping that through events such as this, more attention will be drawn to this devastating illness and families and friends will gain more of an understanding of the impact of the illness.
Playing bingo has definitely been found to have a positive effect on the brain of the elderly, and hopefully through these kinds of initiatives many more people will be drawn to the call to “save our bingo” in the UK. The fact is that it is a struggling industry, yet the benefits that it holds for the communities it serves are really quite dynamic. Not only from a socializing and entertainment point of view. Dementia and Alzheimer’s is a huge problem as is the failing bingo industry in the UK.
