Rumour of Former Bingo Club Being Turned into Primark Store

Rumours have been abounding that the Former Gala Bingo Club in Nuneaton was going to be turned into one of the new budget brand Primark stores. Apparently theses rumours have now been squashed and the former bingo hall in Abbey Street is now safe from being turned into a High Street store. Although it has been confirmed by Wright Silverwood, who are Birmingham based chartered surveyors, that some interest had been shown in the building. The have heard that some developers are interested by they are not Primark.

The former bingo hall that was once the Ritz Cinema, was build in 1937 and played to the audiences of Nuneaton until the date it was closed in 1984, thereafter it was transformed into a bingo hall, and stands at the gateway to the town. It is thought to be in a prime location! It is now on sale for the magnificent sum of ₤1.5 million. When the bingo club eventually closed down, the 15 000 square foot site was ultimately to be demolished (another old bingo hall lost!) but to date nothing has happened, and it appears as though nothing will in the immediate future.

I really wish that these old buildings wouldn’t be demolished, they contain so much of the cultural history of British bingo, and what it meant to our society all these years. I can’t help thinking that they could be put to some other good use, rather than bulldozing them to the ground and doing away with another memorable bingo building.
