Ferret Bingo, Whatever Next?

I have heard of some very strange uses for the game of bingo, as well as some very strange types of bingo game, but this is really new to me. I mean, cow pat bingo, is where you mark a field in squares with numbers and where ever the cow poops, that is the winning number. But Ferret bingo? Well I never!

While bingo fans are used to the caller shouting “two little ducks” 22, now we have two ferrets. This new craze is apparently sweeping across Leeds and bringing the house, literally, down! Teachers and pupils at Wortley High School are apparently the latest to play the game and they held their own tournament in support of the I Love Leeds Festival.

The stars of the bingo show are two little ferrets called Caster and Hemp, and they have to wriggle their way through a special “bingo machine”. Now don’t go thinking animal cruelty, they are not painted with numbers and blown around then popped through a tunnel. No indeed, the concept is a large box that has ferret sized numbered tunnels.  The animals are placed inside the box and punters have to place bets on which numbered tunnel they will come out of.

This game is the brainchild of Angie Alderson who is a teacher, she and her partner own the ferrets who are ten months old and are determined to get a better public image for ferrets. She is head of performing arts at Wortley High School, and her partner also takes the “ferret bingo” to village fetes and game fairs. She said that the ferrets love the game, and so does everyone else it seems. I wonder, would anyone like to start online ferret bingo, perhaps it could become a commercially viable commodity.
